I told my chauffeur (No. 6 bus driver) to take me to a bagel spot, and he said he knew of a place, so I ended up at Black Pine Coffee Co. Before I get into the review, I’ll have to iron out the fact that a bagel is a sandwich in my opinion. There is a thin line between a sandwich and other dishes, but a bagel is definitely a sandwich. It can be difficult to distinguish foods such as burgers, which switch sides like the Italians in global conflicts. Anyway, I ordered the Reuben bagel, which embodies pastrami, Swiss cheese, pickles and some sort of sauce. I couldn’t find out what it was, but I think it’s Thousand Island dressing. This is the first sandwich I reviewed where it was already pre-made; I’m not too mad about this, but I also didn’t eat it straight away as I'd just had lunch and didn’t fancy gorging myself. The bagel was fresh and probably one of the best I’ve ever had. The Pastrami and the Swiss cheese were just pretty mid-table, nothing to complain about, but equally evading my real praise. I do love a pickle in these sorts of sandwiches, so brownie points for that. I was surprised at how small the bagel (See diagram 1 for size reference) was, to be totally honest, but for £6.50, I’ll let it slide as in this economy, that is somehow a good deal now. The Reuben receives a 3/5 from me on this occasion. However, I do have a suggestion for improvement, which also serves as an ‘Honourable Munchin’ to Lox in the Box in Sydney, where I was served a Latke (basically just a Jewish hash brown) in my Reuben. As everyone knows, there are no negatives to a hash brown, so if Black Pine Coffee implemented this change, I’m sure their estimation would improve.
